Nostalgic End of Summer
We shot the series on a cloudy summer's evening at West Beach in Littlehampton, UK. I've always been a nature lover – as a kid, I grew up in southern Brazil, always running barefoot, diving in the waterfalls of my hometown and being close to the sea whenever possible. Not being able to spend moments like these with my family and friends felt like something profoundly unnatural. That's why I spent a lot of time in England trying to find a place that reminded me a little of home, and that would transport me to my beloved tropical country. That being said, I made a "virtual trip". I randomly started looking for beaches around my area on Google Maps, and in the middle of my research, a specific little beach caught my eye. When I went to the place for the first time, I was delighted! Without a doubt, it's a unique beach in England. Very calm, with dunes, pebbles, and a lot of sand overall, which surprised me. Since then, this has become my favourite beach here. Not only the beach, but the town is also charming. When I'm there, I lie down on the sand, close my eyes and feel at home again. I've been dreaming about shooting there for a while, and finally, a few weeks ago, that happened. For the shooting with Ellie, I was inspired by the wonders of those warm, careless, endless days under the sun. The funny thing is that the sun barely appeared on the day, which is typical of England, isn't it? (So we kept on brand!) And in the end, it turned into something even more unique. Dressed in vintage swimsuits, tie-dyed and silky pieces, we spent our day drinking wine, laughing, swimming and capturing just real life on film. We talked about female empowerment, career, and we even planned a trip to Brazil together, as I photographed her embodying this interpersonal connection in the most effortless way. Ellie is an absolute vision. And from that unique moment we had, a new friendship emerged. I feel like we reconnected with nature and also with ourselves.
